SYSTEM MANAGEMENT ENGINEERING FACILITY - PHASE II
HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, BEDFORD, MA

This project is currently in the design stage.  The scope of work for this project is to design and construct an addition to existing Building 1604 to create a new System Management Engineering Facility (SMEF) at the Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA. The new building will serve the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC), Business and Enterprise Systems Directorates, and the Air Force Integrated Personnel & Pay System (AFIPPS) Program. The existing Building 1604, located within Hanscom Air Force Base at the intersection of Barksdale Street and Eglin Street was constructed in 2010 and the design of existing building 1604 assumed a future addition of similar size.

The new addition will add a total building area not to exceed 39,148 gross square feet (gsf). Site support facilities will be constructed, including parking, sidewalks, and utility infrastructure to support the new building addition. The new building addition will be a two story, steel frame structure, with approximately 19,575 gsf per level and will be constructed directly adjacent to existing building 1604. The new addition will utilize and share the existing entry to building 1604. The site design includes a new access road, landscaping, site improvements, and other support facilities. The project proposes an additional 120 parking spaces to support the new building plus the quantity of spaces needed to replace any spaces lost due to the construction of the building, including spaces lost to provide the required anti-terrorist/force protection standoff distances. The project includes a two stop elevator and separate mechanical and electrical rooms. The facility will be designed as permanent construction in accordance with DoD Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) 1-200-01, General Building Requirements and UFC 1-200-02, High Performance and Sustainable Building Requirement. The new facility will comply with DoD Minimum Antiterrorism Force Protection Standards for buildings per UFC 4-010-01. The proposed project will also involve the abatement and demolition of Buildings 1600, 1605 and 1729. All mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems will be designed to meet or exceed the requirements needed for USGBC LEED Silver Certification.
