NEW 86,000 SF HANSCOM AFB MIDDLE SCHOOL
HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, BEDFORD, MA

The scope of this project was to construct a new 86,000SF Middle School on Hanscom Air Force Base to replace the existing school from the 1950’s.

The project involved hazardous material removal and demolition of the existing 60,000 SF school once a temporary 28,000SF modular school was constructed, followed by the construction of the new 2-story steel structure with brick masonry and a fiber reinforced concrete panel (FRCP) rain screen façade. Interior spaces included administration, full-service kitchen, gymnasium, 2-story atrium/commons with stage, and multiple state of the art classrooms and work labs.

Project included high efficiency heating and cooling, elaborate lighting control system, wind turbine, photovoltaic array roofing, green vegetated roofing, and solar hot water heating. Project is targeted LEED silver certification. Project was funded by Department of Defense Education Agency (DoDEA), housed by students living on base and is operated under the Lincoln MA Public School System.
