JOHN F. KENNEDY FEDERAL BUILDING, BOSTON, MA

The John F. Kennedy Federal Building, an office tower located in downtown Boston, Massachusetts at Government center was designed by renowned Architect Walter Gropius in 1961. The building consists of twin 26 story high rise towers and an adjacent 4 story low-rise building with below ground parking.

The project scope included the 1st floor of the low-rise building and the 9th floor of the high rise tower of the John F. Kennedy Federal Building, located in downtown Boston, Massachusetts. This renovation and build out project consisted of the extensive demolition and renovation of approximately 44,200 SF. The construction scope requires multiple phasing in this fully occupied Building.  The 1st floor scope included new hard wall offices, open office support areas, conference rooms,  break room with kitchenette, file/storage rooms, locker rooms, showers, toilet rooms, mail room, server rooms and a 4,700 SF waiting room area for processing applicants.  The scope of work also included comprehensive mechanical systems upgrades consisting of new VAV boxes, and high efficiency digital control systems.  The electrically scope included all new power and data wiring as well as energy efficient lighting with new occupancy sensors.

The scope of work for the 1st and 9th floor MEP systems consisted of new VAV boxes, new control valves for the perimeter heating systems, direct digital control systems tied back into the building BMS.  Electrically, the systems consist of all new wiring for power and data, and energy efficient lighting with new occupancy sensors. This effort also included a significant upgrade to the space’s telecommunication system.  Fire protection scope of work consisted of new main and branch lines, quick response sprinkler head as part of the fire protection upgrades, and the wiring was upgraded to comply with a Class A system requirement.  These systems were integrated with the Building Automation System (BAS).
