WIDE RUINS COMMUNITY SCHOOL COMPLEX, WIDE RUIN, AZ
WIDE RUINS, AZ

The scope of work included a design and construction administration of a 6,600 SF Land Port of Entry in Churubusco, NY.  The The Wide Ruins Community School Complex included a Gymnasium, Maintenance Building, School Building (37,582 SF), a Dormitory Building (17,840 SF) and 11 residential units encompassing a total area of 13 acres.

The campus setting is remote and arid. The student dorms overlook sports fields and a courtyard for both passive and active social interaction.  An Activity Room is flanked by the courtyard to the west and an outdoor performance/cultural area to the east for a fluid flow of social activities. Southeast of the school, a faculty housing complex lines a loop road that connects from the school to the main road. The loop road is well-lit and the houses encircle the communal park-like setting. The larger homes, which house families, have rear patios that open directly onto the park.

The site design had to address a number of requirements. Due to the limited area, an innovative design of interconnected channels of drainage ditches that drain the storm water to a number of shallow detention areas was implemented to meet the EPA requirements.
